TCU Student-Athletes Honored By C-USA For Academic Achievements

CHICAGO - A total of 280 Conference USA student-athletes, including 34 TCU Horned Frogs, earned the Commissioner's Academic Medal during the 2001-02 academic year, it was announced today by the league office. The medals are issued to C-USA student-athletes who posted a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or above during the academic year and participated in a conference-sponsored sport.
With 34 student-athletes recognized as Academic Medal winners, TCU had the second-most among Conference USA's 14 full-member institutions. Twelve TCU sports had at least one member earn a medal, with football and women's track leading the way with six apiece. The other sports, with their number of medalists, include: women's soccer (4); women's swimming (4); men's track (4); men's golf (3); men's soccer (3); baseball (1); men's basketball (1); women's golf (1); women's tennis (1); and volleyball (1).
In addition, an all-time high of 1,677 C-USA student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll during the 2001-02 academic year. Student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better while participating in a conference-sponsored sport.
TCU had a total of 128 student-athletes in 14 sports on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. The football squad again led the way with 18 honorees, while women's soccer added 17. Other TCU sports with individuals recognized include: women's swimming (16); women's track (12); baseball (11); men's soccer (10); men's track (10); women's tennis (8); volleyball (8); men's golf (5); women's basketball (5); women's golf (4); men's tennis (3); and men's basketball (2).
