TCU recognizes athletes of the month and scholar-athletes

FORT WORTH -- Men's tennis student-athlete Cosmin Cotet and women's basketball player Helena Sverrisdottir are TCU's Student Athletes of the Month for February. TCU's Scholar-Athletes of the Month are men's tennis athlete Zach Nichols and women's tennis player Anna Sydorska.
Cotet went 9-1 in singles play to help lead the Horned Frogs to a 9-1 start to the season. He has defeated two nationally-ranked opponents in No. 46 Raoul Schwark and No. 10 Oleksandr Nedovyesov. Eight of Cotet's nine wins have come in straight sets. The senior from Iasi, Romania, posted an 8-2 mark in doubles play, including a 6-2 record with partner Kriegler Brink. Brink and Cotet are currently ranked No. 14 nationally.
Sverrisdottir, a freshman from Harfnarfjordur, Iceland, helped lead TCU to a 6-1 February record after posting per game averages of 11.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She also recorded a team-best turnover-to-assist ratio of 2:3. Sverrisdottir was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week twice (Feb. 11 and 19). She posted her first career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds Feb. 5 vs. BYU. Sverrisdottir scored a career-high 24 points helping lead the Frogs to an overtime win against New Mexico (Feb. 17). She pulled down a personal-best 12 boards during Feb. 13 win over No. 22 Wyoming.
Nichols began his collegiate career with a combined record of 20-0 to help lead TCU to a 9-1 start to the season. The freshman from Austin, Texas, posted a 10-0 singles mark at flight Nos. 3-5. Nichols recorded a 10-0 mark with doubles partner Jack Seider.
Sydorska, a junior from Lviv, Ukraine, posted a 5-1 mark in singles play as the Frogs began the season with a 4-2 record. After dropping her first match of the season at No. 25 Texas, she reeled off five consecutive wins. Sydorska recorded the only victory for TCU against No. 8 Baylor, downing No. 22 Taylor Ormond. She went 5-0 with doubles partner Macall Harkins, including two wins over ranked opponents. Sydorska and Harkins they are currently ranked No. 11 nationally.
