FROM THE CLASSROOM
Congratulations to our 231 student-athletes who posted a 3.0 grade-point average in the fall semester to earn inclusion on the Big 12 Commissioners Honor Roll. Great job!

HORNED FROG STATUE
We're very excited about Monday's arrival of our eight-foot bronze Horned Frog statue. This much anticipated work of art will guard the east plaza at the new Amon G. Carter Stadium and be a centerpiece of Frog Alley activities on game day. We very much appreciate Steve Gray, Bill Shaddock and Ricky Stuart providing funding for the sculpture, created by Paul Tadlock of New Braunfels, Texas. Paul and our trio of donors will be on hand to supervise Monday's installation. A formal dedication will take place at a later date. To give you an idea of the statue's size, Steve is 6-foot-3 and standing next to it in the below photo.

TEDDY BEAR DRIVE
As mentioned last week, our Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), comprised of representatives from each of our 20 sports, has put together a tremendous initiative to truly make a difference in the Fort Worth community. You might be aware that a teddy bear is presented to each child admitted to Cook Children's Hospital. To assist with this wonderful tradition, our student-athletes in SAAC will be holding Teddy Bear Drives at the following home basketball games this month:

TCU Women vs. Oklahoma State, Wednesday, Feb. 20, 7 p.m.
TCU Women vs. West Virginia, Saturday, Feb. 23, 7 p.m.
TCU Men vs. Oklahoma State, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m.

Please drop off your donation of a teddy bear at any of the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum entry doors during the game. Student-athletes will be there to greet and thank you!

FACILITY UPDATE
There's plenty of activity to keep TCU associate athletics director for facilities T. Ross Bailey busy. In preparation for our Feb. 22 baseball home opener versus Cal State Fullerton, we're nearing completion on the new outfield wall and first-base berm at Lupton Stadium. Work on the new drainage system and grass field continues at Amon G. Carter Stadium. The base layer is in, the side drain pipes are being installed and the new lateral drain lines for the field portion are scheduled for next month. It will be early May when we start seeing the new grass on the field.

COODY CLASSIC
The 16th-annual Charles Coody Classic is set for Monday, April 1, at Texas Star Golf Course in Euless. Don't delay in registering now to spend the day on the links with TCU's own Masters champion Charles Coody. Jim Schlossnagle SHOW
Please mark your calendar for next Thursday, Feb. 21, when the season premiere of the Jim Schlossnagle Radio Show will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Woodshed Smokehouse near campus. There will be $2 off select appetizers during the program. After the show, live music will be performed by Texas Trinity Band.

ON THE DOCKET
Beginning with tonight's home women's basketball game at 7 versus Kansas, it's another full week of activity for our sports programs. Both our men's and women's teams will be on the road Saturday. The men travel to Iowa State, while the women head to Baylor. Our baseball program will open its season Friday with a three-game series at Ole Miss. Equestrian has a Friday home competition at noon versus Fresno State, while rifle hosts an NCAA Qualifier on Saturday against Air Force. Women's tennis has a pair of weekend home matches at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. We host Pepperdine on Saturday at noon and Vanderbilt on Sunday at 11 a.m. If you're in the Houston area, our men's tennis program will be at Rice on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

MEET THE STAFF
To illustrate his familiarity with everyone around TCU, and especially on the football end, he's affectionately known by just one name - Sinq. Mike Sinquefield's work with our football program dates back to our days in the Southwest Conference. The LaPlace, La., native arrived at TCU as head equipment manager in 1995. He then became our director of football operations when Gary Patterson was named head coach. Mike serves our program in a myriad of roles, including office management and administration, liaison with various athletic and university departments, team travel and recruiting visitations. A graduate of LSU, Mike previously worked at his alma mater and East Carolina before coming to Fort Worth. He and his wife, Alisa, have three children: sons Kaleb and Levi and daughter Sofie Grace.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Upon arriving at TCU in 1999, Janice Thomas made an immediate impact on the TCU women's basketball team. She averaged a near double-double of points and rebounds in her career, ranking in the Horned Frogs' top 10 all-time in rebound average, blocks and field-goal percentage while holding numerous individual season records. She helped lead TCU to its first NCAA Tournament appearance and win in school history. Janice was also part of our track and field team, competing in the 100- and 200-meter dash and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay. After graduation, Janice stayed in Fort Worth and became a speech teacher and softball/basketball coach at O.D. Wyatt High School. She later took a teaching and coaching position at Sunset High School in Dallas, teaching speech and peacemakers. She currently lives in Fort Worth.

COMPLIANCE CORNER
The NCAA not only limits how many coaches may work in a particular sport (e.g. baseball = 3) but also places a cap on how many coaches may be out recruiting off-campus at any one time (e.g. baseball = 2). These off-campus recruiting limitations were originally created as a cost savings to universities, so not all coaches were recruiting at once. This limit was not placed on all sports, though. For example, golf may employ two coaches and both may recruit off-campus at the same time. Starting Aug. 1, 2013, the limitations on the number of coaches recruiting off-campus will be lifted, so all coaches who are approved to recruit off-campus may do so at the same time.
