History
October Hill Farm grew out of a business called Littlesuch Farm, an equine investments venture begun by the Davis family in the mid-1980's. In its time, Littlesuch Farm owned a variety of horses, from pre-green hunters all the way up to Grand Prix horses. Wendy and Erin Davis, two of three sisters raised in Fort Worth,Texas, were active in the horse show world from a young age, participating in Pony Club, riding camps, miniature horse shows, eventing, local hunter jumper shows and pretty much anything else involving horses.
Riding took a front seat for Wendy when she moved her large pony to a local A-show trainer and got her first experience competing on large circuits, moving quickly from her pony to children's hunters and then junior hunters. In 1991, during her senior year of college Wendy rode at Brass Lantern Farm in Brentwood, Tennessee, where she discovered her successful show hunter, Ex's N' Oh's, who was five years old at the time. With the help of long-time Texas trainer Kevin Cleveland, Ex's N' Oh's and Wendy qualified twice for Indoors, and participated in all Indoors shows in 1999, capping off seven incredibly successful years of showing together at the New York National Horse Show at Madison Square Garden.
All the while, little sister Erin was developing her skills in the jumper ring, taking on three Grand Prix level horses. She participated in the Young Riders in Zone 7. Her first Grand Prix win was in 2000 in Estes Park, Colorado, aboard Kiss the Sky.
In 1998, Wendy and Erin made their first trip to Germany to look at showing and breeding stallions to begin their dream of breeding new riding prospects to show and sell. The Holsteiner stallion Lordship, who became the flagship stallion of October Hill Farm from his importation in 1998 to his death in 2007, fulfilled all their requirements for a beautiful, well-bred, successful stallion. In the years following, subsequent trips to Germany resulted in the purchase of Amaretto D II and a shipment of Holsteiner papered mares from the likes of Corrado, Contender, Cassini I and Lavall I. From that point on, October Hill grew quickly, importing more top-quality mares, producing foals, providing stallion services, participating in high-level competition, and developing an ever-growing, intercontinental network of contacts and resources in the hunter/jumper industry.
Today, the facilities of October Hill Farm stand on over 200 acres of beautiful, rolling hills overlooking the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. Our services have grown to provide full training for horse and rider, mare and stallion management, young prospect evaluation and development, and, most importantly, sales of top-quality sporthorses. The TCU Athletics Department announced in August 2010 that October Hill Farm would be the new home of the TCU equestrian team. The Horned Frogs will compete and house their horses at October Hill Farm in Hudson Oaks, Texas. The facility is located just 25 miles west of Fort Worth and is situated over 200 acres. It is overseen by President and General Manager Wendy Davis Gerrish, who graduated from TCU with a master's degree in liberal arts in 1999, and Erin Davis Walsh, Vice President of Operations and head rider.
"We are excited about moving to October Hill, it is giant step forward in our program and one we have been needing to take for a while," said head coach Gary Reynolds. "Wendy Davis Gerrish and Erin Davis Walsh are both TCU alumni and we are so grateful to them for allowing us to move to such a fantastic place. It is truly one of the premier collegiate facilities in the nation."
October Hill Farms boasts a 28,800 square foot fully enclosed arena, which is surfaced with state-of-the-art Terra2000 footing. The riding arena, which is a 120x240 riding space, is structured with retracting overhead doors and mechanically controlled windows that allow for air circulation. The property also features four barns to go along with 14 different pastures. TCU will house its horses in the North Barn, which includes 20 10x10 stalls, automatic waterers and two wash stalls with on-demand hot water systems.
